Support Your Independent Retailers & Make This A "Local October"

Are you always saying "I'll stop there next week, or month, or year"? Do you ignore the long-time, iconic and beloved cornerstones of your town? Are you skipping the family-owned stores which are right there where you live, yet turning onto the highway and leaving town to go to the big box store complex 30 minutes away?

Our actions speak louder and owners can't pay bills and employees and rent with comments about how much "you adore their shop" or just "think Main Street is the cutest thing!!" Those places - the ones that bring meaning, life and character and life into your neighborhoods may be here now - but if you choose to ignore them the entire community may be in jeopardy. We must remember that making the choice to spend locally is not for just when it's convenient; when you have a relative visiting from another state; or for Small Business Saturday. It's a year-round commitment and one that keeps the life and unique vibe of your zip code something special.

We encourage YOU to join us in our efforts to spread the word about the importance of spending locally. Take a few minutes to share, download or repost our seasonal images to show support and to help educate your local residents. Get to know the people who own and operate the iconic, beloved businesses in your city.

Pledge to stop into your indie retail shops, restaurants and service businesses this month and make it a "Local October".

We need more "I went out to visit, support and spend at the awesome places where I live".

Wise choices may not always be the easiest option, but they may be the ones which contribute to the well-being of your entire neighborhood.

Check out our Facebook page for more graphics in support of independently-owned establishments!

....because empty towns are FRIGHTFUL.

What are some of the family-owned restaurants and shops which make your town special? Look them up on social media, share their pages and posts, and remember to invite your friends and family to join you in "looking local this October".

Our spending is a powerful vote for - or against - local economic health, growth and a more sustainable place to live. We urge you to consider every purchase you make and ask yourself, "can I find this at an area business first?". Happy October and enjoy the beauty and magic of the fall season.
