When America Reopens, Who Will You Be Supporting?

Welcome friends, to another installment of posts and notes from the Facebook page of Go Independent, Shop Small (Anywhere USA) during the second half of April. While I don't normally reshare those posts on this blog, so much was happening during the challenging days of March, April and May as our world came to a standstill. Limited perhaps, by so little ordinary interactions? I felt such a connection to my followers and readers that I've been adding some of the posts into mini-collections here as well. I hope you enjoy catching up.

Sobering thoughts upon reading this letter and petition for change from a concerned citizen in New Mexico. I couldn't help but relate to the frustration so many of us feel too! "Dear Governor Lujan Grisham (New Mexico), As your administration continues to take action to decrease the spread of the Corona-virus, we as small business owners (and the families of those working for these business) are at or nearing a point of no return. To put it bluntly: Your decisions are destroying the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands in our state who own or work for small businesses. We simply cannot continue under these harsh restrictions." See the post here.

Monday, April 21st: such emotion in this post from Bob’s Tackle Shack in Grove, Oklahoma! They are SO FREAKIN' HAPPY to be reopening that I could almost feel their excitement leap off the Facebook page.

Later in the day - after reopening - I could cry for them. THAT is community love and people supporting each other. THIS is what we can all use more of. Post via Bob’s Tackle Shack | Grove, Oklahoma

Editor’s Letter: Let’s Make ‘Shop Local’ A Viral Sensation This was another great article I came across which speaks volumes: "As horrific as is the lingering COVID-19 pandemic, the proliferation of fast fashion chains, outlet shopping, department store price-cutting and online retail behemoths have proven to be viruses in themselves, decimating local independent stores well before Coronavirus hit."

April 24th: If you are one.....THANK YOU. If you have been staying strong and hanging in there, waiting to reopen.....YOU'RE AWESOME. We need you in our world. KEEP THE FAITH.

April 26th: I refuse to substitute relationships and roots in my community for the mindlessness of one click ordering.

April 27th: Further proof of the benefits of spending where you live.

April 28th: It's National Superhero Day and I can't help but think about all of you!!

What a great article I stumbled across! Spend It Here Keep It Here ~ "Put your money where your heart is, because your family and community are uniquely related."

How much do we love small businesses referred to as GEMS? (Answer: a lot). "Make plans to shop small and support local Idaho businesses. If your financial situation allows, consider buying a gift card, ordering take-out, or simply thanking the businesses that make Idaho great." Read more @ Support Local Gems.

April 29th: I shared a "Live Local, USA" blast from the past (November 12th, 2015). "When you choose to support a local business that is a part of your community, it's more than just a decision about which building you walk into. It's about community, relationships and knowing the people and faces and places that make up YOUR local landscape."

April 30th: It's a privilege to be surrounded by caring and dedicated independent business owners. Love your community?Preserve the unique flavor of your town by keeping the independents around.

"Supporting your independents helps build a better community."

I hope you found some inspiration and hope here. We're keeping the faith and eager to get America's small businesses back open and operating! Find our posts and graphics on the social links below to keep in touch.
