New Year Goals for Shopping Local, Spending Better, and Spreading More Smiles

Thinking of the new year which is about to roll out in front of us like a grand red carpet...... what will we change, or how will we go about our daily lives? We can plan for things we never do.....or we can make ideas come true. What we pursue and support and promote is what we will wind up with in the future, so choose wisely, my friends.

Suggestions for the new year.... c
elebrate what matters • embrace our community pillars and business icons • pause to consider how we can make a difference this year • meet more people • start a revival of local business love • get to know our neighbors • explore locally, even if we feel awkward venturing out of our comfort zone • help our town or city become a thriving place to live and do business • ditch the ego, build the connections!! • come together for something greater than ourselves • adopt a mindset of suggesting independent places over chains • be proactive; speak up for local businesses BEFORE they close • reclaim our choices! • embrace the idea of a smaller circle by living within our own neighborhoods • foster a sense of adventure in our kids instead of gravitating to mega-corporate brands • step away from reliance on big names • have more local adventures • "buy better" instead of going with the herd • stop sitting on the couch clicking our tablets and instead GO OUT and do things with REAL PEOPLE at actual places • encourage people to join us in doing all of the above • LIVE BETTER. #GoalsFor2024

As we sail forward into a new year, I wish you the joy of a fresh start and season of opportunities and adventures. Thank you to the loyal and dedicated people who have continued to follow my page, Go Independent, Shop Small (Anywhere, USA, who like, share, and comment, because it is you that keeps the message of "spending better" out there, and together we all accomplish so much more.

If we love great experiences which bring the warm & fuzzy vibes to our hearts, and smiles to our faces, let it show; let someone know. Tell them with your dollars, not just words, because no one wants to hear how cute their shop is while you are mentioning how you wish there was a Walmart closer. 🙄 I'm committed to seeing my friends succeed and thrive; we share in their heartbreak and difficult times, but we sure as heck cheer for them and back up our words with real, tangible, support of their business.

"Independent businesses create colorful and connected communities." Let's all be part of this in the months ahead.

Our efforts drive the economy, so lifting up our fellow humans and neighbors and friends, is truly a gift which benefits all of us.

Let's promote growth this year; not just in our own habits, but to invite and encourage our peeps, friends, family, and neighbors to join us? Imagine what a difference that could make if we incorporated phrases such as the ones below into our lives....

• Office lunch: May I suggest Joe's taco stand? Everyone around here raves about it.
• Breakfast with the guys: hey, let's give Al & Becky over at the Morning Grille a try this week.
• Date night: How about we go into town and take a walk around, maybe stop into that new bistro or the Tommy's Pub?

Simple suggestions.
Easy ideas.
Making a difference can be done in so many ways. 🙂👏💕

Whatever we wish to achieve, is within our grasp. Stick to the plan and watch what happens!
