There are always smarter options no matter WHAT you purchase, or how big or small your budget is. It doesn't matter if you are planning to spend $10 or $100 on Christmas gifts for family members - you can direct those dollars to walmart, and buy a bunch of "stuff" - or you could buy one or two higher quality items from an indie retail store, artist or craftsperson.
Let's join the movement towards "less, but better", by giving extra thought to HOW we buy. Perhaps a shift in our mindset could help keep someone in business, encourage an artist, or help a family-run company out, rather than just adding to a corporate bank account. Life is all about decisions, and if we want certain aspects of our neighborhoods to survive and thrive, we're going to need to take ownership of our personal choices.
