Independent Bookstore Day | "I Asked If You Would Go Buy a Book...."

Independent Bookstore Day is approaching on April 28th, and I was all out of ideas for ways to observe, take part or acknowledge the date. We've asked you before plenty of times to tag your fav indie shop, to post and tell us what the local corner stores mean to you, and to offer up names of places you can't imagine living without. And now, I just....want more.

This year, I'm challenging you to go out and spend at your locally owned bookstore on or within a few days of April 28th. Let's actually see it this time; observe an iconic place through your eyes, or on your Instagram, Twitter or Facebook feed. I'm asking you to take it up a notch and snap a selfie with the owner, post a pic on the Facebook page of cool signage or an amazing interior filled to the brim with literary delights. Shares of a "shop local" graphic that I post are are nice - likes and a tag of a nearby business are great - but these things aren't paying the rent or electric bills for the owners. It's time to take things up a notch and SHOW that you live what you talk about - and that you love what matters in your community.

Are you in? I pledge to visit at least two stores that week, because I need a gift and a couple of books and I'm going to take you with me. Read the article below and find out if it speaks to you the way it did to me. Decide what matters - take the challenge and let's do this! "Why You Should Support Your Local Independent Book Store"

What is Independent Bookstore Day? From the website: "Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. Every store is unique and independent, and every party is different. But in addition to authors, live music, cupcakes, scavenger hunts, kids events, art tables, readings, barbecues, contests, and other fun stuff, there are exclusive books and literary items that you can only get on that day.

Not before.
Not after.
Not online."

Below are a couple of graphics to download, repost or pass along in support of our indie retailers. Thanks for reading,
