We lose when we read the news of another business around for over 50 years closing it's doors; we lose a piece of our community when those people are not supported in and instead, ignored in favor of online ordering.
We lose when we stop having these stores and destinations to take our kids, when the people we loved bringing our friends to meet are gone, when we no longer have incredibly cool places to savor during milestones in life, celebrations and at holidays, when our towns and cities stop being places for opportunities and growth.
We lose a piece of our soul when things things slip away, because we were too lazy to notice, look, go, stop at, walk through, drive to, visit, and what happens when people no longer want to open up businesses in our city or town? Are empty storefronts simply the way of the future? Are we to embrace the fact that "there is nowhere to shop around here" might become a reality?
When I come across companies which were founded 35, 50 or 100 years ago, and learn they are not only surviving, but thriving as constant and steadfast pillars of their community, I feel it's necessary to keep working away at this page, blog and massive collection of resources on Pinterest, because the stories of countless hours of hard work, commitment and determination, still matter. Those people, our nation's entrepreneurs, are still a vibrant pulse in today's economy, and a driving force behind successful economic scenarios, and we must not become complacent with losing them.
If you are an entrepreneur, thank you for your contributions; if you know someone who is, please acknowledge their hard work and for keeping independent businesses alive. Your ongoing support of the decision to "buy better", is what can help keep dreams alive, doors open, and lights on. Thank you. #NationalEntrepreneursDay
