"The Heart and Soul of Our Country" | National Mom & Pop Business Owners Day

National "Mom & Pop Business Owners Day" is an opportunity to celebrate the independent, often family-owned businesses, which our make communities diverse and vibrant. To participate, simply plan to visit, enjoy and acknowledge some of your coolest local spots on Tuesday, March 29th.

What's it all about? "This holiday was created to honor the business that my parents started on 3/29/39 in Everett , MA - a hat shop called Ruth’s. It later developed into a woman’s specialty clothing store and moved to Medford , MA , increasing in size to 10,000 square feet with over $2 million dollars revenue until it closed in 1997." While March 29th may be called "mom and pop" business owners day, we celebrate everyone who has stepped into the role of a family legacy, created their own company or partnered up to follow a dream; sisters, mother and daughter teams, blended families and diverse entrepreneurs of all ages.

Here's a post from the Finger Lakes region in New York, illustrating just how big a part of the local economy independent businesses are: "Mom and Pop business are abundant and flourishing in the Finger Lakes and are the essence of who we are. Here is a list of locally owned and operated businesses to visit, support, and enjoy on national Mom and Pop Business Owners Day….and every day." Celebrate National Mom & Pop Business Owners Day in the Finger Lakes
